Andean cock-near-a-rock (couldn't help myself)
Visual pun. Sheila and Albaro and I were in the car on the way to the Condor Reintroduction Center, talking about going to the lek of the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock at sundown. As we rounded a corner, this rooster was showing off alongside the road. As noted above, I couldn't help myself...

We climbed this hill above the Condor reintroduction center specifically to try to see the Bearded Helmetcrest. After a long and somewhat arduous climb, we found these flowers, and Albaro, our guide, told us that this was where the bird would be if it was around...
Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus)
The lek of the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock is magical. Their calls are downright weird, and they were everywhere. As far as I could tell, we were far more impressed than the females were.
